The YouTube video “Religion & Sexuality” shows Broderick Greer. He is a black homosexual minister. Broderick grew up in Fort Worth in a very strict black household with a very tight connection to the church, spending numerous nights a week in church. He had a very close relationship with God throughout his youth and from a young age knew he was attracted to men. Therefore did not “come out” until the age of 21. During his youth, he got baptized four times thinking if he could not pray the gay away, he could wash it. However, he says that if God wanted to make him straight, God would. When he “came out” his family was accepting and the church as well. Broderick points out that church is open for all no matter your sexual orientation and hopes that his journey can inspire people to do like him. My personal thoughts are that church and protestant Christianity, in general, is moving towards a time where everyone is accepted. That is how it has been in the Swedish churches and it is beautiful.
